Hi,
Just recently bough myself a HPSmartMedia Window Home Server, a fairly
cool bit of kit for use on my 2 desktop 1 laptop network.
Must admit I don?t ?quite? grasp the concept of open ports and remote
access suffice to say ?open? = not good as bad bloke can get in and do
nasties to your PC/network.

Wireless Networking Problem

I have a home wireless set up using a Linksys Access Point (WAP54G-UK) which
has worked fine for a couple of years supporting 3 x laptops plus a
desktop - all running XP
One laptop has now stopped working - reports No Wireless Networks in Range.

I presently have an adslnation filtered faceplate on the BT socket in
one bedroom and have my router plugged in to that and my PC connects
wirelessly to it ...I have a cordless base phone plugged in to it as
well and a couple other cordless phones elsewhere around my flat . I'm
not all that impressed with wireless ...

I eventually had a go at setting up my wireless network but
it turned out a complete failure and I wound up unplugging
it all and going back to where I started from.
I couldn't get an internet connection at all on the pc cable
connected to the wireless router. On the laptop, I could
pick up a few networks, ...

Network cable route

Hi
I need to run a network cable to an upstairs bedroom, about 16 metres
in total. wireless won't work too well in this location for some
reason, rest of house ok.
The easiest route is running it next to the electric ring main cable,
would this effect the performance of the network connection?
