pc stopped working and smell of tcp??

My ex just rang to say the kids pc (which i built) suddenly stopped
working - n lights power anything - hbut smell of tcp - cant remember
anything about it but that it was a gigabyte MB and new power supply about 4
years agio (kept upgrading) - will be having a look at the weekend ... Is
this likely to be mb ...

Parallel printer & usb converter device

I have a parallel printer working fine to a XP sp PC.
I'm swotching to a mobo with no parallel port and so would like to get
the pronter working on usb (rather than buy a new pronter just now).
So I got one of those "parallel-to-usb" converters. (Centronics plug
with electroncs to convert to usb 2)

Very old PC keeps losing Data and Time and BIOS settings. I took the
battery out and it's completely flat. As the machine is several years
old I'm waiting to get a new battery to fit. Just out of interest,

As I am running out of space on drive C I added another drive, E (D is a
CD-Rom). Microsoft say that I can gain access to the space on E as though it
were on C by mounting drive E into a folder on C.

I am on the point of installing Win 7 Pro which has been sitting on my
coffee table since the 2nd. Initially I had anticipated installing the
64 bit version, but I have now learnt that an application I like I has
issues with 64 bit.
The machine has dual core AMD 64 bit 2.8 GHz CPU and 4 GB RAM on an Asus

expensive for me to want to use them on every machine that comes my way.
