Has anybody here used SteadyState?

CD burner problem

Using Nero 7 express, the CD burner in my optiplex gx620 has stopped burning
with (initially) a power calibration error. It's done this twice with brand
new (admittedly cheap) Emtec media. Google suggests this is a less common
problem than it was a few years ago. Is it likely to be sick hardware? Any
recommend ...

OEM XP Professional: any snags?

Hi:
I need to upgrade an ancient laptop from W98 to XP. I would like to try
installing an OEM version on a new hard drive. Are there any gotchas?
I have my eye on the XP Home SP2b version. I only run ordinary stuff on it.
Any advice welcome. TIA

Stuttering sound

OK, here's a tough one:
Win XP Home SP2 on a ASUS P5L-MV 1394 system, 2GB RAM, Intel D915 CPU.
Onboard video, no separate display adapter.
Sound stutters/jumps/skips when CPU gets moderately loaded, especially
(but not only) on network card activity e.g. check of POP3 email .
Sound files I'm playing back ...
