Mon, 28 Jul 2008 03:28:08 -0700 (PDT)
Hi All,
I want to play with mirroring fair chunk of data across town between
mine and a mate's house.
We're both on ADSL so our upstream speed's not brilliant, but
nevermind.
I was planning on setting up a FreeNAS box at one end, possibly
eventually at both, and filling it from the pile of hard disks I have

"Older" scanner better than new!
Mon, 28 Jul 2008 01:00:03 +0100
Just an observation more than anything else, but when my "old"
parallel interface scanner packed up I replaced it with a Packard Bell
usb one that worked fine. However, with my old scanner I could use it
to scan decent pics of 3D objects. i.e. it was able to focus on parts
of an object a cm or so above the top of ...

IRQ clash
Sun, 27 Jul 2008 11:23:39 -0700 (PDT)
A few frustrating hours spent searching for a hardware fault ended
when I moved a RAID card from PCI slot 4 to slot 3, to stop its IRQ
clashing with my USB keyboard.
Does PCI-X assign IRQs to slots in a less inflexible way than PCI? ...

the occasional glitch where I would get a popping/crackling sound repeating

Older PC keeps giving odd errors at POST
Sun, 27 Jul 2008 13:30:26 +0100
Hi
I've an older homebuilt machine here that has started behaving oddly
on boot up

I suspect this is a BIOS or mobo issue as memory frequency is ...

Update to: I will never buy BFG products again!
Sat, 26 Jul 2008 13:34:04 +0100
They returned my card and I examined it myself, and took it to the post
office adn to a local PC repair company.
Both advised me I should have used a rigid box to return to BFG BUT both
agreed the damaged Molex could not possible have happened whilst
packaged as adjacent capacitors, fan housing etc were untouch ...

weird problem involving wep encryption
Sat, 26 Jul 2008 00:34:38 +0100
Came across a strange problem regarding a wireless network using wep
security. One laptop would refuse to connect for more then a second, the key
was correct, and it had worked previously. All the other wireless devices
would work.
Because of issues not really relevant, wpa was not a permanent possibility,
