External Hard Drive - USB Connectivity?

Hi guys
Just bought a Maxtor 160Gig External HD from Tesco.
When I opened the packaging the cabel from the Drive splits into 2 and
requires 2 free usb2 ports and I only have one!
Does anyone know if any other brand of small external hard drives work with
just one usb2 connection?

Distinguishing USB1 and USB2

Is there an easy, reliable way of telling if a machine's USB ports are
USB1 or USB2? I once thought that if they were USB2 then you'd see
"high-speed" in the Device Manager, but that doesn't seem always to be
the case?

Hi, my daughter bought a used Toshiba Portege R100 some time ago. It's
worked fine for 6 months. Recently, There's been a BSOD every time
WinXP is started and gets to the desktop stage.The BSODs are widely
varied in the messages and stop codes reported. I also noticed that
the computer date had reverted to Jan 20 ...

remote management questions

I am looking for a remote management solution, for 1-4 comps, but if
price is steep, maybe just one. Remote management as in as far as
seeing the BIOS. So, not VNC.
remote management cards (i.e. with RJ45 socket to go to ethernet port)
