SATA DVDRW Slow

I have an Asus P5B-V Mainboard. I had an Asus DRW-1814BLT SATA DVD Rewriter,
which was only writing at between 2x and 2.6x, even when selecting higher
speeds. I've bought a Pioneer DVR-215SV SATA DVD Rewriter which I thought
would solve the slow burning of dvd's, but it's doing exactly the same.

Fixing an emachines pc for someone...complete format.
He had xp home installed with coa on the back so I used a set of emachines
restore disks (NOT for his machine) as a way of getting xp home onto it
knowing that it would accept the coa as I`ve done this many times before.
Thing is.....I didnt get a chance ...

compatibility of Centrino CPU's question

Folks
If I want to upgrade my laptop CPU from a Centrino 1.3 GHz to 1.7GHz or
above (given they're so cheap on eBay) - are there any compatibility issues?
I have referred to the spec sheet below and it doesn't mean a whole lot
to me in terms of compatibility.

Scanner can't be installed - keyevent.dll can't be deleted!

I installed a brand new scanner (packard bell) and everthing except
into own "stand alone" interface (to change settings etc) worked fine.
The stabnd alone did no appear after the install process (not in All
Progs list). The TWAIN setup worked and access to the scanner from
within Paintshop application was ok. I ...

Bit OT - Delay on shortcut keys

XP Pro SP3
I use a lot of shortcuts via keys, especially for 'secondary' apps., e.g.
CharacterMap Pro (usually needed only in Word) via Ctrl+Shft+M or IrfanView
via Ctrl+Shft+I.
About half the time the app. starts immediately but t'other half there can
be a delay of up to a minute - it's a bit of a nuisance.
