A little OT, "Play All" in XP does not work
Sat, 5 Jul 2008 19:49:57 +0100
When exploring my media folders on the PC (which is home-built to keep
it slightly on-topic!) the "Play all" link on the left-hand edge of the
explorer window does not work. You can click it but it just doesn't do
anything. Annoyingly I can select all then right-clik and choose "play"
which works fine.

Pixel Tolerance
Sat, 05 Jul 2008 11:35:09 +0100
I bought a new monitor a few weeks back. Make that five.
It is an LG Flatron W1952TQ.
Very nice monitor and all, very bright, crisp and clear. One exception.
There's a bright green dot staring at me from just off centre.
That's when I became and annoyed with the idea of pixel tolerance.
Both Dabs (where ...

OT: How to pretend my PC has 3 GB not 4 GB?
Fri, 04 Jul 2008 22:23:13 +0100
Even after considerable googling (or maybe that should be *because* of
considerable googling), I'm still confused about the implications of
having 4 GB on my (32 bit) XP Pro PC. Can the experts straighten me
out please?
Some specific questions I have are these:
1) What RAM is my PC *really* using?
2) Is th ...

Unusual problem

How many people have seen a normal SATA hard drive that passes the usual
diagnostics, allows you to read all the data without any issues but cannot
be written to or even "low level formatted" by its own manufacturer's
diagnostics disk?

Case recommendations? Antec Nine Hundred?
Fri, 04 Jul 2008 19:19:01 +0100
Any opinions on the Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate case?
Most reviews look promising. I'm not a gamer but I have a system with
4 HDDs and a CPU that runs pretty hot when encoding video clips.
Rendering can take several hours of full-load CPU.
What else is worth looking at?
TIA

XP Registry Problem
Fri, 4 Jul 2008 16:55:55 +0100
Looks as though I have a corruption in part of the registry tree which
prevents regedit doing an "export" and hence leads to Genie Backup Manager
stalling in the middle of its automated process.
I have traced where the fault is,
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/Print), and it also occurs
at the ...

Accidentally broke CPU
Thu, 3 Jul 2008 08:17:34 -0700 (PDT)
I bought an old Diamond Multimedia MX300 sound card. Oddly, it
arrived with no backplate. I decided that I could test it without
one. I did so, and switched on my PC, and I didn't have any luck with
it. On some occassions the BIOS reported no new card had been
inserted, and on other occassions the BIOS reporte ...

Apologies to those of you have already seen this on the U.A.C. group.
