Service Pack 3 for XP
Fri, 16 May 2008 13:40:35 +0100
This is just an update on a previous thread on this subject, to record my
personal experience of the upgrade.
Last week I used the Microsoft Update website to try and upgrade to SP3 for
my XP Pro setup. All appeared to be going fine ... the file downloaded ok
and was verified ... the install process kicked ...

Phorming
Thu, 15 May 2008 08:56:54 +0100
I've been browsing through the virginmedia groups following the change
of news server and came across quite a number of posts about phorming
which I'd never heard of. It seems that VirginMedia are involved and if
you want to find out more I would suggest

Virgin Groups RIP
Thu, 08 May 2008 21:35:26 +0100
So, assuming someone is out there, it appears that coincident with the
change of news server is the axing of the virgin newsgroups. Not
surprising really considering how little use they got.
Hope you switched your newsreader to the new server o.k.

Speed
Sat, 15 Dec 2007 20:27:12 GMT
Program on Radio 4 mentioned connection speeds and a survey ( seems like
everyone's at it) they had done. One thing stood out apparently, if you
have a 1Mb connection then you are most likely to get close to what you
are paying for. Anything faster and no chance.
They then came out with the news that BT are abou ...

BT Speed Tester....
Mon, 10 Dec 2007 21:10:34 -0000
Terrible speeds tonight. Wanted to run both tests on the BT BB speed test.
Run the first one then changed log in details for the second test but kept
getting timeouts... tried for 20 minutes with no luck...
Has anyone used this second test successfully?

Virgin Broadband Plan One
Sun, 2 Dec 2007 03:02:10 -0000
Virgin Broadband Plan One that I'm on at the moment seems to be overpriced
at ¡ê24.99 p/m... seems to me I should change to the ¡ê17.99 one "Unlimited
Broadband" and get the same awful service for less p/m...
Up to 8 Mbps?
Unlimited downloads
(Acceptable use policy applies)?
Free PC security

Wot, no service, no change there then.

In the news a few days ago ...
"Virgin Media customers have been left without TV, Internet and Video
on-demand services after a suspected arson attack knocked out power to
60,000 homes in Manchester city centre, Salford, Bury and Wigan last night.
Power was completely restored by 9pm, and most users were rest ...

I just got an email with a lonk to obtain a 'greeting card' someone had
sent. I have had something similar in the past that was genuine but
noticed the download was an exe file so presumably something nasty - so
take care if you get one. I know I shouldn't have touched it but my old
mac is immune to all this PC st ...
